KAPIT: A celebration was held on Saturday night to mark the completion of riverbank and slope protection works to the Kapit Waterfront at the arrival hall of Kapit Express Terminal.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development, officiated at the function.

In his speech, Masing said he was pleased to note that all the elected representatives of Kapit, heads of departments and community leaders were present to celebrate the completion of the RM3.8-million project.

“The next phase of river bank and slope protection works is from RC Jetty in front of Fort Sylvia extending up to the mouth of a small stream end of the police flat estimated to cost RM11 million. We proposed a mini garden to plant indigenous plants.

“The site has been identified and it will link to the Lily Pond landscape development. This would be an area for recreation where people could relax,” Masing told those present.

He said the other three ongoing landscape beautification projects are Lily Pond landscape development between Jalan Penghulu Nyanggau and Jalan Memorial, Town Square and Kapit Waterfront Phase 2 landscape beautification.

“Upon completion of all these projects Kapit will surely be transformed into a place with beautiful landscape where people could relax.

“These are the projects announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg last year,” he told those present.

On politics, Masing advised the people not to listen to the opposition or individuals going around spreading false news.
