KAPIT: Councillors ought to regard the management and staff of Kapit District Council as part of a team to provide better and quality service to the people.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat said this when officiating at the closing of the Local Agenda 21 and Community Development Programme at Rumah Rambor Belansai, Sungai Melipis recently.

“The councillors present today are from various political parties and this is a good team that could help to uplift the image of the council,” he remarked.

Jamit commended the council for organising the Local Agenda 21 and Community Development Programme, which he said was one of the government’s initiatives to bring the people closer together.

“The programme has provided the people, especially those in the rural areas, an opportunity to meet the various government agencies and the political leaders to provide updates and information on the latest government policies,” he said.

On another matter, Jamit called on the people to give their full support to incumbent MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, who is expected to be re-nominated as BN candidate to defend the Kapit parliamentary seat during the coming general election.

Others speaking at the function were the organising chairman Cr Ekau Baring, Deputy Walikota Cr Lawrence Listin Baling and the council’s secretary Jabang Juntan.

Later, Jamit announced a government grant of RM10,000 to the JKKK of Rumah Rambor.

The function was attended by 15 village chieftains along Sungai Melipis and the nearby longhouses along Batang Rajang and some 400 guests and longhouse folks.
